Treating ich in a planted tank

Hello, it displeases me that my first post here must be because of an outbreak of ich, but this appears to be the best place to have this question answered.

I just helped my friend turn a 55g tank I had used for an Oscar into a minimally planted tank (I say minimally because he doesn't want to spend any more money until he proves to himself he can handle the live plants) and he just recently added fish. Well, unfortunately he did not follow quarantine tank procedures (I also blame this on myself for not making sure he did this) and two of his gouramis have ich. My question is whether a treatment with aquarium salt would be deleterious to the plants?

I've searched the forums and found that many people have used true medications with success, but I'd prefer to medicate only as a last resort.

my tank took ich med's well, and did not see any harm to plants. I also used aquarium salt and saw no effect.

So try the temp and salt route first:
1 Tablespoon per 5g's of aquarium salt

then try a ich med like Kordons Rid Ich +
