Never heard of it. There are several species of Ludwigia, but never heard one reffered to as scarlet.

I've never heard of a scarlet version but my ludwigia regularly drop the bottom leaves after trimming the tops and replanting.

A photo of your Ludwigia scarlet might help us get an idea which Ludwigia you are talking about. My guess is it is L. repens.

If the plant is new to you and your aquarium, there is a chance the plant was grown emmersed (above the water). If it was grown emmersed, the plant may be shedding the emmersed grown leaves and will replace them with a submersed leaf form.

If you have had the plant a while and it is loosing its leaves you might want to be sure the plant isn't being shaded and that your CO2 levels are up to snuff.
