How often to do WC on cycling 4gal?

My dad set up a small tank (about 4 gal). There are no fish in there yet but once they do go in how often should I do water changes? 50% every day? every other day? And keep this rountine up for how long? And then how much to change how often? And putting in 2 swordtails right from the start would be too much right? Better put in just 1 at first?

Oh also the tank has been running about 2 weeks now with some fish flakes thrown in there every now and then. Not sure if it would help start the cycle.

Sorry for so many questions

two swordtails will be maximum capacity for that tank. in fact, I wouldn't even do that...I'd put one betta in there, maybe a ghost shrimp and call it done.

You have to test the ammonia and nitrite. If ammonia goes over .5ppm and you have fish in there, do a 50% change. if nitrate is over 1ppm, do a water change.

once the tank is cycled, a weekly 50% change is all you need.
