quick diy co2 question

I am trying out diy co2 for my 20g. When I make the mix, can I use ro water? When you stick the airline tube into the top of the bottle do you use sillicon to hold it in? I am going to use 1.5cups of sugar, 1/4tsp of yeast. Does that sound good for a 2L bottle?

Yes on the silicone. RO water should be ok but I don't think it really makes a difference. Its the CO2 that is the end result that you want. Your mix looks ok too. When I used DIY CO2 on my 20gal I mixed 1/2 teaspoons yeast with 1 1/2 cups sugar. I would change bottle every 10 - 14 days.

The mix sounds good. When you drill the hole for the airling tubing make it smaller than the diameter of the tubing, this will help minimize leaks, then seal it with silicone also.

I don't think that's a good idea. Some ppl (soft water?) actually add Baking Soda to increase the hardness. So at least you'd have to reconstitute it to some decent kH, or the mixture might not be of long life.

I'd just use tap water...

Well I already used ro water with no baking soda, so I'll see what happens...

So far so good. I'v got it set up going through a TopFin air diffuser into a powerhead. The diffuser is putting out 100 bubbles per min.
