Trimming plants a different way?

I trim my plants and also cut off large growths for friends, etc. I've notice that for example on my brazilian wort where I cut off growth for friends, it just seems dead and hasnt started to grow from that area for a couple of weeks. Is this stem where I cut now dead or trained not to grow?

I've done the same to other plants, and I've never seen new growth on stems I cut even after weeks. Is there a place where I should trim?

All i see are tons of bubbles coming out of the cut end for a week or so, and then the bubbles stop and then nothing.

They can grow new side shoots at any location on the cut stem, not just where it was cut so look a bit lower. some stems take a bit to bounce back and start its growth again as well.
