First time dosing, is this right?

Okay I estimated I have about 160 liter of water in my tank, to make Nitrogen 20 ppm I calculated I need 23g potassium nitrate, I made a solution of 230g KNO3 in 1000 ml of water and had a hard time dissolving all those powder, it's really concentrated and I am gonna throw in 100 ml of these into my tank, before I do that, just want to ask: does this sound right to you?

Fertilator says it actually adds 88ppm NO3. Plus, 20ppm NO3 in one dose sound a little higher than most would do.

i dose 20ppm right after a water change, but my NO3 is down to pretty much 0 at that point anyway.

NO!

That was some estimate. At least you did not add 23 grams directly to the tank. Most people just dose KNO3 into the tank and don't worry about the solution.

5 grams directly into the tank will give you 19.16 ppm. You might want to download Chuck Gadd's calculator and use it to check your estimates. The link can be found in my Guide.

eh, what's wrong with my calculation?

160L water 20 mg/L that's 3.2 grams of nitrogen

Molecular weight of N 14
Molecular weight of KNO3 101

so 23g of KNO3 has 3.2g Nitrogen

Nevermind I figured it out, when it says 20 ppm N it means 20 ppm of NO3-

Ahhhhhhhh! I am really glad I asked before dosing

Now I am panicked, when it says 1 ppm of P acutally it's 1 ppm of PO4...

the question is what about iron? 1 ppm iron is that 1 mg/L of iron (56) or 1 mg/L of iron chelate

160 liter 0.1 ppm Iron, that's 0.016 grams of Iron
I have this Plantex CSM that says 10% Iron, should I add 0.16 grams of it to my tank?

Majoring on the minors,
it's easier & more accurate dosing dry.
