What is Chemi Pure?

I didn't want to take over a Filstar post, but my LFS mentioned using chemi pure or bio chem zorb in my filstar. The filstar came with the bio chem zorb, so I put that in, which in another thread I was told is not the right thing. Before I run out an buy more stuff I don't need, I thought I'd ask what the chemi pure is.
Thanks so much for the info!

if you're running a fish only system, either of those products would be fantastic. they're both resins used for clearing chemicals from your system. in a planted tank, some of those chemicals are needed by the plants to survive. (see posts on micronutrients, macronutrients, etc). you can put activated carbon/charcoal in the same category. it would make dosing fertilizers for your plants a moot point if you have filter media that sucks it all back out again. so, you were told correctly by both parties..

1. they're great for keeping a tank clean and the water pure
2. they're *not* ideal for a planted tank since they pull ferts from the water

most planted tank keepers use only mechanical and biological filtration in their canisters, etc. some good coarse pads, fine pads/floss, and some porous media for biological colonization should be perfectly adequate, as the plants do the chemical filtration for you (nitrogen, phosphorous, etc).

hope this helps you out

Thank you--it does. The fish store throws so much information and products at me, I am totally confused and intimidated by the time I leave the store!
