For those of you with canister filters........

What do you fill them with?

I just got my Eheim 2213 and was wondering how I should fill it. Since the plants will take care of most of the biological filtration do you just use mechanical?

I know GAC is not good for planted tanks due to removing the ferts but does anyone use some other type of resin instead?

I have a 2213, and here is what I have from bottom-up...

noodles to collect big debris, blue coarse filter pad, the rest is stuffed with floss.

Mind it that this filter runs my UV and NOT my co2 reactor since the fine floss will reduce the flow. But it works great and does a great job polishing the water.

I have an XP2 and I run black course sponges for large mechanical filtration then I have noodles in a bag for biological and filter floss for polishing.

10g & 46g bf, Filstar XP2, coralife 96w, eco-complete, pressurized CO2 w/ DIY in-line reactor & ferts.

Two Renas, an XP1 and an XP2. The XP1 has only sponges and the fine floss for polishing. The XP2 has ceramic rings in one basket as well as the sponges and floss.
