corys and substrate

So ive had caribsea floramax which is sharp and edgy and bad for my corydoras. So I topped it off with black moon sand by Carib sea and it all just went to the bottom from the corys turning it over. Now one of my cories barbels are gone and now the stubs are bright red. Ive had this gravel for about 6 months and its jusst making me sad seeing my corries sad and injured. They had very long barbels when I had sand before l wanted a planted tank. So I need advice on how can I have black soft sand for the corys button still good for plants. This is for my 29 gallon. Please post asap id like to change it soon

Well, you could use all Moon Sand, and put fertilizer tablets deep in the sand.
Like other sand, it does not have any cationic exchange capacity.

Substrates with high CEC and are safe for Cories include Turface, Safe-T-Sorb, the ADA products and others.

Mineralized top soil is likely to be Cory-safe, but can be so fine that it clouds the water if they are really serious diggers. (My Cories are not, but I have some Loaches...)
