Need some information on Hairgrass

I've recently bought 15 bunches of eleocharis parvulus to use as a foreground for my tank, but before planting them I wanted to get some advice, namely- what is the ideal distance they should be planted apart from each other to create a 'lawn' like effect?

Will they grow laterally as well as vertically and eventually fill any gaps between bunches?

Oh and one more thing too - can I safely prune them to about half their usual height (I want the well-maintained-lawn look) without damaging or killing them?

Thanks for any light you can shed on any of this for me!

Plant them about an inch apart. They will fill in in between. Give it a week before you give it a haircut so that it can establish, after that you can cut just like a lawn. Cutting it encourages it to put out more runners and spread faster.

BTW if you need more I got some up for sale in the "swap n shop" section. I'm positve you'll get much more for your money from me.

I like dwarf hairgrass when they are short, regularly dwarf hairgrass are about 3-4 inches and I cut them so that they are like 1-2 inches of grass. That isn't a problem is it?

Thankyou! That was just the kind of advice that I needed

I might have to pass on your hairgrass however as I'm in Australia and shipping costs might be prohibitive.

Thanks again for your help m.lemay.
