Is this schedule ok?

OK so I've got KNO3, MgSO4, potassium chloride (KCl?), and pH down (sodium biphosphate). I've read the EI page a few times and I understand most of it (except how you never end up with more than 2x what you dose but it doesn't really matter).

1. So how do I go about finding out how much I need to dose? Do I use Chuck's calc to see how much of each I need to add to get the recommended ppm?

2. Tom says that tanks with less plants and light still does the same amount but less frequently. "If you have low plant density or have low light (two watts or less Normal output FL's) you can get by on once a week." I will have 30w over my 8 gal so will I need to dose just once or twice a week?

3. I dose bicarb to bring KH from 2 to 4, and I should continue that right?

4. Will the pH down throw off the pH/KH/CO2 chart enough to make it inaccurate?

Sorry for so many questions, I'm such a noob

Edit: Oh yes I also forgot to add that I still need help with the trace solution (I posted in water paramaters). I know the mg/ml of the elements but how do I convert to ppm? they're not always equal...

We will need your tank size to determine doseing under EI also if you have really high concentrations in your tap you can back down on the EI doseing.

My tank is 8 gal and I have no clue what my tap has in it. I contacted the municipality but got no reply. Do I have to find all this out before deciding how much to dose?

What are you C02 readings? I suggest you have your C02 around 30-40ppm before you start dosing the EI method.

Yup CO2 is finally fairly stable at ~32ppm. I have a new bulb to replace one of the 15w since it's almost 6 months old now. I'm just waiting to start dosing before I replace it.

If you want, you could try my dosing schedule. I haven't tried yet so maybe you could be the first one

So what you're saying is that you want me to be the guniea pig huh?
OK so if I follow that I would still have to reduce the dose though since my tank is quite a bit smaller than yours right?

I don't think so, a friend of mine does the same exact dosing I believe and his tank is double my size. Just besure to do 50% water changes.

Here is how you never end up with more than 2X what you are dosing.

Week one. Dose 10 units. 10 units
Week one. Water change, remove 5 units. 5 units
Week two. Dose 10 units 15 units
Week two. Water change, remove 7.5 units 7.5 units

And the numbers keep going on like this
17.5, 8.75
18.75, 9.375
19.375, 9.6875
19.6875, 9.84375
19.84375, 9.21875
19.21875, 9.9609375
19.9609375, 9.98046875

It will get very close to 2X but never approach it. And that is with no plant uptake at all.

Rex,

Do you think my dosing schedule will be okay?

Oh that makes perfect sense, thanks Rex. It's pretty simple. It's kind of like that riddle, will you ever get to the door if you walk 1/2 the length, and then half that length and so on.

So what about the dosing schedule? Can I follow jdinh04's or would I have to does less? And less often if I have 30w over 8 gal?

Yes! I snuggle with rats!

I don't mean to be a nag, but can someone tell me if this dosing schedule and amounts should be ok for 8gal, 30w, 32 ppm CO2.

Day 1: 50% WC, 1/16 tsp KNO3, 1/32 tsp KCl, 1 ml NaH2PO4 (3/8 tsp NaH2PO4 in 100ml water), 1/8 tsp MgSO4

Day 2: Traces (I'm still trying to figure this out. Does anyone know how many grams 1 tablespoon of CSM+B is???)

Day 3: Nothing

Day 4: Dose everything from day 1 except MgSO4

Day 5: Traces

Day 6: Nothing

Day 7: Nothing -or- treat as Day 1 (which would be better?)

I put the gaps inbetween dosing days because my tank isn't heavily planted and light isn't that high so that should be ok right?

I am not an expert my self but am the only one who seems to be posting and helping others, I guess people here are just merely lazy to post or sleepy? o.O no offense or anything but I just wish people who are good at this stuff would help and get things done faster.

I don't see a problem with your schedule, on day 7 I would take a rest and not do anything.

Dosing questions are best asked and answered in the Water Parameters forum.
