Would this work as DIY CO2?

I was at Costco where they had a gadget that makes carbonated beverages at home like root beer and cola. It was about $100 for everything including a CO2 cartridge. Then later I saw the identical thing for about $75 at Walmart.

Could you just make a couple liters of the carbonated water, first step to making the beverages, fill a 2 liter bottle with it and hook it up like a DIY CO2 unit? No "explosion in a beer brewery" smell, no mess to throw away weekly, if it would work.....

Why not just buy carbonated water if that's the case? It's cheaper than $75.

For that much money, you could just go with a paintball CO2 setup: https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=128487

DIY CO2 is cheap and effective on smaller tanks, but for that money you're best served buying any one of the entry level pressurized setups on the market. I never have any brewery odor from my setup until I'm disconnecting the bottles but my wife keeps the smell goods in the house so I wouldn't notice it even if it did.

So instead of just using the CO2 cartridge directly on the aquarium, you're going to add another step, a "middle man" so to speak, and an expensive one at that, and dissolve the CO2 into a bottle of water first, then let that dissolved CO2 slowly reform into bubbles, which you will then attempt to re-dissolve into your aquarium. Do you see the fallacy of logic here?

Just get a paintball setup, you can do it for about $50-$75.

When I can no more stir my soul to move, and life is but the ashes of a fire
When I can but remember that my heart once used to live and love, long and aspire
Oh, be thou then the first, the one thou art, be thou the calling, before all answering love
And in me wake hope, fear, boundless desire.
