DIY CO2 check valve

Hi,

I made a diy C02 bottle and was wondering if a check valve is necessary if i have the bottle at the same level as the tank. I am afraid of water siphoning out of my tank. Also if it is necessary, what check valve do you recommend that is pretty reliable?

It is always good to have a check valve and gives you peace of mind. Just use a cheap plastic one. No need to get to fancy.

Any reputable brand check valve will work.

If you're planning to run two generator bottles and a gas separator bottle, having 3 check valves in total (one on each generator, and one on the line to the tank) will allow you to disconnect one bottle without losing pressure in the system. Hoppy on this forum uses this technique and it sounds like it works well. I have nano (12oz) bottles, and replace both each week, so I only run a check valve on the line leading to the aquarium.

A nice check valve wont break the bank, but a drained tank certainly could.

Check this website for great information: http://www.qsl.net/w2wdx/aquaria/diyco2.html

Those are the check valves I'm using, with no problems yet. "Yet" is only a few months, though.
