Foam in Sump

I have Foam in my Sump in the chamber after the drains on each side. The drains have filter socks on them.

My tank does not look crystal clear like others I see posting pictures. So I removed the foam and rinsed it in a bucket from my tank, and was shocked how dirt it was. I know the foam needs to be cleaned, but did not realized how often, it only been in the tank a few weeks.

Anyway I filled the chambers up with filter floss tonight and I was shocked withing a few hours how crystal clear the water was, also my sump looks the same way. I am kind a shocked how dirty the filter floss looks. So I guess I am wondering if anyone else notices this? Maybe I am leaving my filter socks on too long before switching to another set?

The sumps on my tanks also accumulate a LOT of debris. Keep on cleaning!

I've also noticed my sump accumulates a LOT of debris. Just imagine what goes through our cannister filters that you never know about, or what doesn't make it into other filters and stays in the display!

Every few water changes I drain the sump and use a wet vac to suck out any mulm from the bottom of the sump. The vac makes it super easy, it takes way longer to drain the sump than vacuum the crap out.
