My Swords Probably Hate Me

I planted 2 amazon swords in my 25g when I first started it. I didn't know any better, because they were tiny at the time. Now, they are gigantic. Their leaves will stick out of the water if the level drops an inch or so, and they fanned the entire tank!

I couldn't take it anymore They were obstructing the light for everything in the tank, so I chopped a ton of leaves off of the sides of both. I really didn't want to, but I think it was necessary. They were out of control!

I had a sword, and in the end algae suffocated it from light and it died a slow and painful death.

Are you happy? I'm happy.

They won't mind. My 75 gallon is full of swords and only swords. When I'm in a trimming mood I fill a five gallon bucket with leaves. I often take more leaves off than I leave on the plant.

They will kick back in no time. Actually it encourages growth. You can always prune to control their size though. They can get monstrous if you had a big enough tank to house them. I'd love to have a 300g or so tank with large amazons. I don't think they hate you personally, they probably just hate you for putting them in a 25g,lol.

What i don't get is how people grow them emersed. If one of my tanks get low and the tips are out of water they get damaged.
