how fast will this tank cycle?

I just got a ten gallon tank from goodwill for $6. I plan on using it as a quratine tank, using substrate from my 55g, hob filter from my 55g, some smaller plants or clippings from the main tank, and a small piece of drift wood from the main tank.

My question is how long will it take to be cycled? I know tanks are different but what is your experience.

If there are no fish in it will I have to add anything to keep it cycled?

I usually just seed a filter on an existing tank for 2-3 weeks before I put it in the new tank, never had a cycle happen after doing this.

The filter has been on the tank for almost a year. So can I fill the tank and put fish in? Or should I wait a few days or weeks?

If you kept the same filter pads and didn't wash the substrate ( everything was kept up and running ) within 48 hours you should be okay. If you washed or left it all sit out and put fresh filter media in your looking at having to do a complete cycle.
