Does Petco or Petsmart Carry Glass Tops?

I was wondering if they do, and are they cheaper during the dollar per gallon sale?

It helps to match the tank and the top by brand. They are not all the same size.

They do, but make sure they are the same brand as the tank you buy. I've made that mistake before. It might be cheaper to just but it online. Petco and Petsmart do these $1 per gallon sale with the assumption that you will have to also buy all the assosieies for the tank. I've never seen a discount of hoods.

To my surprise yes. I picked up 4 40gb and 4 10g a a few weeks ago and all were good construction despite being $1 per gallon sale. I looked at the tops but they were not on sale.

I'd say you can use any glass top regardless of manufacturer. Hoods are a different story. The thing you need to worry about are the actual dimensions. Make sure they fit your lip openings. The top itself has nothing to do with brand. I can go make glass tops or acrylic tops to fit without having the manufacturer make them. Sticking with the same brand has no relevance.

I disagree, I've bought aqueon tops for all glass tanks and they did not fit.

Can always go to a glass shop. Then buy the hinges, online or at LFS.

That's why I stated to check your dimensions. 1" = 1" No matter what size your tank or the top is unless your measuring in metric. If you get within the right dimensions it will fit. It will require you to do a hard measurement of course. Don't go by what's printed on the box, this is mistake #1. Check for yourself if you want a proper fit.

I saw some longer ones at my local PetSmart this morning. The local/independent shops around me often package them for larger tanks. I.E., takes two smaller ones to cover a longer tank.

Thanks for the help everyone, they have it!

Is it bad though if my sponge filter sprays a lot of water on a portion of the top?
