Is 8 wpg too high?

I recently gutted a coralife 4x 65 and jebo 4x55 creating
a monster fixture with the potential to put out 8wpg
wondering if while using ei on a 55 gallon this will pose
a problem? I can cut it to 6wpg. I had it setup during
the breakin period and was ravaged by algae but i was
using ei and thought what the heck!! not supposed to happen
that way right? It is alot of light visually its not overwhelming
because its inside a canopy. Just replanted after war of the worlds
but I'm wondering if the light has been the problem the whole time?

IMO that would be a nightmare...4.4 wpg was hard enough to figure out the "break in" period, I couldn't imagine trying 8 wpg. Any reason why you want that much light? You can grow just about anything between 3-4 wpg.

The question is WHY? Heck if you have that much light, get a larger tank!

OK for SW, not plants

Major mistake to try that on freshwater plants. Only thing that might moderate it would be to add a ton of peat tea to make blackwater, but a lot of trouble to go through when you need to just turn a light off.

IME, 3.4 wpg is more than I want to deal with!

I'm not sure how you could even put that much light over a 55. You only have 48 x 13 to work with, and each PC is almost 2 inches wide. Putting four side by side, practically touching each other, seems like a waste. Go back to 4 if you want high light. Your electric bill will thank you.
