20g Long (rimed) or 17g Mr Aqua (rimless) for shrimps?

I have both tank right now empty and can't really decide on which tank to use for shrimp but I am leaning more towards the 20g long because it would have more surface area and room for shrimp growth.

This tank is probably going to be low tech but I might get a splitter and inject very little Co2 in there. Little Co2 is still better than non right? Probably using the Co2 mainly to lower the pH. My 60-F is going to be high tech with the Co2 tank, so that is where I am spiltting the Co2 from.

I already have the 20g long. How do I derim the top? Just pull it off?

Derimming is kinda scary (you can kind break the glass if it's bonded really well) and it looks really weird with the frame off the top, but on the bottom. I think you should go with a Mr. Aqua if you really want rimless...

Google people doing it. Someone on here derimmed whole thing and put it in a stand they made that hugged the bottom (ive derimmed top/bottom of 5.5 its fine) a lot of people do it and honestly i wouldnt feel safe if the plastic trim was the fine line between water staying in or out of the tank..

You wouldnt see the bottom trim if left on anyway if you put it in a stand.

If your main purpose is to raise and breed shrimp the 20 long would be the better option and forget derimming.

Personally I say 20L but in reality it's all up to you man! If you don't mind the little loss of space and want rimless go for the 17G

40B - Shrimp tank

What do you like the looks of better? It has to be the rimless (why else would you get it?). Go rimless! Rims are so 1980.

As for "little co2 is better than none right" - not if this is a shrimp tank. Just leave it low tech I say. Plants still grow but it's a lot less maintenance as they grow slower. At least I've had better experiences with shrimp thriving with low tech than co2 tanks but others have thrived with co2 as well. I just think if your goal in mind is to have a ton of shrimp babies, go without co2.
