Capping with Eco Complete

I was starting up a 20H tank and i would like to use top soil then just cap with some eco complete but i heard this can be tricky because of the gases that escape from the soil is there any type of method that is a surefire way to not have problems with this setup.

All answers appreciated.

I don't think you will have any problems with gases if your cap is not too big. Try to keep it at an inch.

It helps to mix up your soil with some water (make a sloppy muddy mess, basically) and let that sit for a couple days before you cap it and flood it. You're still going to get some bubbles coming up, but its not problem. Just don't have such thick layers that you get anaerobic areas.

I have a 2 gal I set up about a month ago with eco + mgo...I have about an inch of each. I see gas which bubbles up from the substrate from time to time so Im guessing the gas produced by decaying organic matter is escaping.
