Cycling question

The lighting isn't required for the cycling of a tank is it? I was planning on filling the tank when my lights came in but i had an unexpected purchase come up, pushing my lights back another week. The filter and substrate are ready to go so, should i go ahead and swap the filter media from another filter and fill her up, or should i wait?

You don't need light. Pitch black inside my canister filter I'm sure. I :-)

Yep darkness is great... and the longer the bacteria has to get established, the better! Just be sure to feed the happy bacteria with rotting fish food, Ace hardware ammonia, a dead prawn, dead fish, or whatever.
