fluval only?

Trying to do it by the directions. Time to add my wonder mix substrate that I have never done before. Fluval says I can not mix their product with gravel. I need to mix to have enough substrate for this project. Any guidance please?

this
i'm pretty sure nothing's going to explode if you mix them :P
however, if the fluval stuff is smaller than gravel, it'll fall to the bottom...

Thanks all, after much study and reading and more reading I have decided mixing substate products is not the way to go. Going with eco-complete all 3 inches. All the fancy stuff will be tested in small tanks with no mixing. I have grown plants in aquarium gravel fo 30 years. I don't know what has gotten in to me. Just because I don't use ada the project will not "bomb" I hope.

Big smile, here! At times it does seem to be just too much information. I got into raising just a few plants quite by accident and did it all wrong. But then when I did really want to grow some plants it seemed to be harder than when I was just blundering around. I realize that I was doing it wrong and very limited but it seemed much more fun. Now I'm tied into schedules and work that I had avoided before. The plants look nice but am I right in doing it the "right" way if it is less fun? I'm just out here wobbling along.

This aquarium plant thing has really taken off. I think back to my father's 300 gallon open system and how we used to throw away trays of Sag and Crypts grown in chicken grit. Co2...what ? ADA substrate...what ?
Now there is more plants than fish types.
I just odered 20 different plants after much study.
I have no idea how they will grow but I must have a dwarf hairgrass carpet.
I think I am having fun?
