Fluval 406 Canister Return

Is it possible to use Fluval 406 Canister filter to return water from sump. In other words Fluval input will be in sump and Fluval output will be in main tank.

I can be off on this so someone jump in and correct me.

It's going to hurt the out put of the canister because it's going to have to operate as a lift pump. When the intake and return are both coming off the main tank both lines find an equilibrium. by having the intake below the water line the pump isn't going to get any help pushing water back into the tank.

To give you an example if you make a water level. clear tube 15 feet long and fill it with water and hold up the two ends so it's in the shape of a "U". the amount of force needed to at least get the water moving will be less then if you had one end laying on the ground.

I don't think you would ever be able to get a fluval pump and gravity in-sync to be able to work right.

I'm leaning more toward that as well. The pumps in all the canister filters are pretty weak when it comes down to lifting water. You can get pumps for pretty cheap.

I have the reef ready tank i have the fluval i have the return pummp. I only ask cuase why run 2 pumps when i can run one. Unless of course it cant be done. I justbdont see how fluval are so weak if they return water all the time. The stand is only 28" tall and tank is 16" tall. Can it be worse in me setup than people who use 24" tall tanks on 32" stands?
