Am I doing this right?
I am new to planted tanks and I want to make sure that I am doing things right. I have 2 15 watt florescent tubes 6700k sitting on my 20 gallon tank. I am using DIY yeast with a ratio of 1/4 teaspoon of yeast, 1 cup sugar, 1 L water.
I have been dosing as follows
K2O - 2x a week
N - 2x a week
Fe - 3x a week
Trace - 3x a week
some comprehensive fert - 1x a week
I am not dosing phosphates because the phosphate levels in the tank are astronomical. I am working on getting them down.
Everything is going fairly well but I am having problems with black algae. I read that this can be due to low co2 levels and poor circulation. I plan to up the co2 levels by increasing the yeast to sugar ratio and I will be adding another powerhead.
Any recommendations for something I should be doing differently?
Is it possible to overdose co2 using the yeast method? If so how much co2 should I use to get rid of the BBA without gasing my fish?
