Wanting to start 40 breeder planted

I am complete newb to planted tanks

I am going to breed some chiclids in this tank
I don't want to do anything to hard just some easy to grow plants

So far i have emperor 400 for filtration
aquoen 200 watt heater
2x 42 watt 6500k florescents

I did a little search on planted tank on youtube

Looks like i will need to buy substrate or at least some type of plant food pellets
Could i use this in conjunction with cleaned dirt from the back yard and sand. I want to do dirt and a sand covering .

Any help is welcome

cleaned dirt from your yard will not work out to well, there is a substrate sub forum on this board, do a little homework before u take any actions
