20 gallon long SCORE!

Just put a 20g long on hold at my lfs to pick up next week for $35 for the tank, hood, filter, and light strip (incandescent but going to turn into fluorescent). Can you say pumped? just gotta buy the heater!

if you're going to plant it, I would think the CFL curly bulbs in the hood would be better than swapping out to fluoresecent. I've swapped most of my fluoresecent for incandescent fixtures with CFL bulbs and went from having val's 2" tall for the past year to 14" long in the past 2 months with CFL.

20g platy, , 2 x 10g shrimp, 3 x 20g shrimp, 7.5g shrimp and 1 great dane/mastiff puppy.

oh wow, that might be way better then. i was debating it, but wasnt sure how itd work. Might be cheaper too lol. Im planning on making it somewhat heavily planted, with guppies and blue rams.

I use CFLs on a 40, 15 and temporarily my 29. They work like a charm. I put them in clip, worklights with metal reflectors available at hardware stores like Lowes or Home Depot.

If they don't fit into the hood you can suspend those circular shop lights over the tank with cfls.

I managed to fit two 23 watt clfs into a standard 10 gallon incandescent hood.

Good price, nice find! I'd be wary of derimming, a lot of standard tanks have jagged glass up top.
