Got a piece of driftwood from local pond/lake

but it's too big to boil. How do I go about making this safe for my tank?

get a Rubbermaid bin.Boil a ton of water,dump in bin cover to retain heat,than do it every three days for two weeks.Pain in the arse but it works.Patience will be your best friend

Edit:Get a large and small wire brush.Wire brush at every water change
