Banana plant vasectomy

My banana plant has a long shoot with a leaf on the top of the water. There is a second shoot starting,1".Do I let the incredibly impressive long shoot go,or cut it it down and have it loose all its clout and respectability in the tank

...with that thread title I thought I was going to get a chance to talk about my April, 2009 surgery

Yep, let it float. I've read that may turn into a flower. . . . I haven't experienced that: with my Nymphoides aquatica plants, those lilly pads break off at the node, sprout roots, and turn into a whole new plant.
