You have way too much light for a low-light tank ):

I am starting a 20g long fairly soon. I am running 2x31w T5 and I thought my lighting would be in the moderate - high intensity region.

if you want a nice carpet Dwarf Hairgrass, or Dwarf baby tears look nice for the foreground. some of the smaller crypts might be a good idea or lugwigia sp red for some contrast (stem plant but i keep it in my 10g just trim it a lot).

What are the measurements on the 20L again? I've got T5HO 2x39W on my 30 gal (36''L x 12''W x16''H) and I've got a high tech high light setup. It seems to me that T5HO 2x39W was way too much light on a 20L.

With that light level you can grow almost anything you want! Here is my 20L, which is basically just a grow tank at this point. It requires a lot of trimming, and maintenance!

I have one single T5HO bulb ( 36 inches wide makes it a 39W) on a 26 gal and a 40 gal. On the 26 gal It is raised about 9inches above the tank for low light & for the 40 gallon the light is on top of the tank and I get mid range par at substrate- once again with that is with a single T5HO 39w bulb

Regards,
