storing new plants for rescape

If I order a bunch of new plants for a rescape, what do I do with them. How long can I keep them floating in my tank, or something else, a bucket?

i've kept plants floating in a tank for months.

I you use a bucket, drop an airline or small power head in there. The plants won't fare so well if the water is stagnant.
