Question undergravel filter removal

Ok so a little background before my question. I set up my tank about a year ago and it came with a UGF and an HOB filter which I have replaced with a better one but I let the UGF run up until about a month ago when I decided to start planting. At the same time I was reading that UGF are a no no for planted tanks plus I didn't like the look of them anymore so I turned them off and took the tubes off but for one the bottom tube is still sticking up out of the gravel and the plates are still in so I want to take them totally out.

Now for my question, should I attempt to take it out now or wait until I move in 3 months? And if I do take it out now how do I do it without botching up my tank and killing my fish or having to re-cycle the tank again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Wait till you move until you have to tear down the tank and move the fish. Trying to remove it, you are going to bring up all kinds of mulm and create a huge spike.

20g platy, , 2 x 10g shrimp, 3 x 20g shrimp, 7.5g shrimp and 1 great dane/mastiff puppy.
