Un-appetizing Shrimp??

I brought home a small cleaning crew for my little 2 gallon betta tank--2 ramshorn snails and 1 shrimp(lfs had it labelled only as "algae eating shrimp"). Well, Betta Bob was thrilled to be brought such a fine afternoon shrimp snack!! It was about 1 1/4" long and seemed to face down the betta in their first encounter. However, in the time it took me to do a ph test, the shrimp was gone. Unless it has burrowed into the sand, it's now an ex shrimp!
Right now, BB is looking really p'd off about the snails being in his home. He cruises around them and nudges the bigger one with his nose. He's very frustrated!
Does anyone know of any shrimp that would not meet the same fate?
If I can get the ph right and run a small filter, I'm thinking of trying some pygmy cory's if I can find some. Sound reasonable?

Being crazy keeps me from going insane.

bettas don't do good with roomies sometimes and especially in a 2gallon tank. Only hope for a betta friend is a bigger tank. betta's are not as much aggressive as territorial. When they feel something is in "their space", they kill it. If he's in a 10 gal or bigger, he may stake out his "space" and be fine with other tankmates. May not as well.

20g platy, , 2 x 10g shrimp, 3 x 20g shrimp, 7.5g shrimp and 1 great dane/mastiff puppy.

Thanks. Looks like it's up to me and the snails to do the cleaning!

my betta was in a 10 gallon and then was upgraded to a 20 gallon. he shared his space with some shrimp but only ate them after they died. (i had an ammonia spike that unfortunately killed my 3 shrimp ) but, he did eat any and every snail he could find! he loved to eat snails. escargot was his favourite treat.

lots of it depends on the betta, some will eat shrimp the second they are put in the tank others will never touch them.
