I have issues

I started in this hobby 9 months ago, and I can't stop buying new fish. I visit my LFS (3) every week and I almost always take something home. If I don't have room, I just flush the old ones. I used to rehome them, but that got old.

Am I the only one that likes to waste money like this?

Please tell me you're kidding about flushing the old ones?!

If you're not kidding, then please stop that. It's cruel. Fish are living things, not just decorations to discard when we get tired of them.

+1!
how would you like to be dumped into a gross pit of sewage filled with harmful/painful chemicals? and breathe it? that's what you're doing when you flush fish alive, it's not like they die instantly or go directly into clean water.

Yeah I honestly feel really bad (which is why I am posting here in the first place.) The display tank at one of my LFS have about 15 of my fish...

I'm the type of person that when I see a bug in the house, I catch it and let it go outside, but I kill my fish... I can't control the impulse buy.... it's really hard to control myself when I am in the store! I love getting new fish, then reading everything there is to know about them!

I have an obsessive personality, which is why I'm telling myself I don't need any more tanks (I have 2, recently sold one, and am breaking the second one down soon.)

I really need to calm down, does the urge to buy aquarium stuff and fish ever go away?

Next time you go to your LFS, leave your wallet at home. The fish you already have will thank you for it. How about if you read everything there is to know about your fish BEFORE you buy it? Make sure its one you won't tire of.

You can try to exercise one of those old, now politically incorrect, virtues known as self control. Telling yourself you have an obsessive personality is just your excuse to continue with wrong behavior. Tell yourself no upon occasion, you'll probably find it useful in all areas of your life like developing some character.

True enough. I mean, being addicted to buying fish would be near the bottom of the totem pole on "terrible things to be addicted to". More rationalization, I know, that's the story of life isn't it! Maybe I don't feel bad at all, which is why I keep doing it.

Do you want my fish? lol..

Thanks guys though, I really needed to get that off my chest. Now... about those badis badis I saw today..
