Using a siphon/vacuum/gravel cleany thingy between tanks?

How would I best clean it? I need to siphon some food out of the hospital tank but I don't want my main tank to get down with the sickness as it were.

you could allways do a bleach dip for the part that actually goes in the tank, just make sure you get all the bleach residue off the syphon before u move to tank 2. or just let it sit out and dry in the sun for a few hours.

Buy one for your Q tank. Or use a turkey baster if it's a small tank. I would not take a chance of spreading disease between tanks.

If you use bleach you have to run the bleach thru the entire hose, not just the part that goes in the water.

why? your not filling it with a syphon. i could c that if it was a python, but not a regular old syphon.

Backwash. Not sure about you but sometimes when I stop my syphon I get some water run out of the hose and back into the tank. Why risk it when you can go buy one for $8? The truth is it's a good idea to have separate syphons for each tank you have up and running, including a Q tank. The same organism can affect fish differently - even if you don't have a visibly sick fish it doesn't mean it can't send something thru the hose that can make another fish sick.

i agree with you 1000% about getting a second syphon.
i can see your point about the backwash as well, but the old syphon i have has a 1 way valve, granted not all of them have this feature, but good point.

Oh see none of mine have any kind of valve - they are just hose with the larger vac tube on the end.

I keep separate everything for my QT. But then, I get a little paranoid about passing different organisms among different tanks.
