Shrimp oil paintings

Well I'm finally starting to fool around with oil paints again. I miss doing art, but I hardly have any time for it.

Recognize that I am a novice, and that I have never had any formal training before. I'm not too happy with the way this came out, but seeing as I haven't picked up a brush in years, it didn't turn out so bad as it could have been.

Don't ask what plant that is supposed to be. I'm embarrassed to say, because I know it looks NOTHING like what I intended it to be.

EDIT: dimensions are approx. 4" x 4"

EDIT EDIT: If you have some really big and really sharp pictures of shrimps (of all species, colors, and grades), you should email them to me.

Pretty nice. I'd go in with a finer brush to give the shrimp more detail. It'll make it pop.

I read the title and imagined someone grinding up shrimp for oil to paint with.

Looks amazing! I just finsihed 2d-art in school and....I can't paint ;_; I may take up drawing instead. You planning on making these for sale or to decorate your house, cause I think you could make some money off of this. (and don't forget if it doesn't turn out good just call it "abstract" )

Take a painting class! I'm sure it will be well worth your while. Since I'm a science major, it's hard to find time for art classes, and now that I'm so immersed in school, my creative outlet has taken the back seat.

I actually suggested to my dad that I sell these guys, and he gave me the "we-are-taking-you-to-get-some-professional-psychiatric-help" look. Unless someone shows an interest in them, I'm not going to peddle my novice artwork. I suppose they will find a place on my wall. I bought a pack of 9 little canvasses. I could paint a whole series of shrimp and then arrange it above my tank.

In fact, abstract is more up my alley. This is another painting which I am working on tonight which isn't yet completed (not really aquarium related, but what the heck):

And here is the terrible mess that happens whenever I try to do realistic stuff:

I'll just stick with abstract, thanks. But that's why I want to paint shrimp; I really need to get out of my comfort zone and strengthen all areas of my art.
