planted tank novice

hi, just signed up! Live in scotland and kept tropical fish for years but with silk plants. Decided to buy myself a new tank and want to have a go at a real planted tank. The tanks still in its box, ive ordered silica sand (never used sand before either) being brave lol thats about as far as ive got. Sand should be here in a couple of days. Then i need to start the major task of moving my existing tank and fish out the way to make way for the new tank.

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated!

I use a sand substrate with a layer of flourite under it. With sand you will have more success with plants if you use a root tablet fertilizer.

I'm sure you have read about keeping planted tanks and you probably have learned a lot. I would say just make sure you have good lighting, filtration, water quality, and fertilizers for plants!
