Scheming on a plan...

Alright, I am scheming on a plan that involves shipping a decently sized piece of manzanita. I am trying to figure out how to ship this without costing an arm and a leg to the recipient. The box would be roughly 30" by 16" by 18". The package will range from 5 to 15 lbs base on the selected piece. I will be making no profit on this and this will most likely be a RAOK. So I don't want to make a free thing cost a lot. (shhh on the RAOK part, it will be a little bit till I can post it)

Lmao, that is what I thought, so far the cheapest is $40 for shipping to a random address from northern CA to Tulsa Oklahoma ( just threw out a random address ). Don't know if someone would want to pay that for a RAOK ( even though it would be a very nice gnarled manzanita centerpiece). Anybody think they would want that opportunity? Roughly $40-$60 manzanita root/base shipped to doorstep?

Any chance that pc could be sawn in half for reassembly after shipping?

If I was doing that, to make it easier on the recipients end, I'd drill my screw holes before I sawed the wood in half. Them after shipping the buyer could just reassemble.

You might knock that shipping cost in half.

That Is a good idea I will look at the piece, I think that if sawed in half it could fit into two large flat rate boxes, that cuts it down to about 20-30$ that isn't too bad... I will do some measuring, thanks for that .

Also check FedEx/ UPS. I know Tom also uses Greyhound Package Express for large more akward pieces.

Thanks for all the feedback, the greyhound tip was useful, thanks for the help! Hopefully I will be able to do something for the forum in the future.

valid point. i also ship good sized pieces of DW and have found that UPS can be a good bit less than USPS. You wouldnt think so, but they are in SOME cases.

There are 2 types of people on this forum. Those that have algae, and those that lie and say they don't.
