What do I need to get started

I would like to set up my 20 gallon as a planted tank. Not looking for a high teck set up by any means and not looking for outstanding growth, just enough to fiddle with now and then

so this is what I have right now, will this work? or do I need to add or get better items. I've done a small amount of research but don't want to get all caught up in the expensive fancy stuff if I don't need it

20 gallon standard aquarium
standard flourescent light with flora gro bulb- 18watt I beleive
1-3mm natural gravel stubstrate

what else do I need or should I consider before starting

fertilisers for basic setup i would recomend root tabs and small column dosing with liquids. Some individuals run setups without ferts or c02 and they work fine just depends what plants your looking at ??

40 gallon dirt tank
5 Gallon planted bonsai dirt tank
1 Bearded Dragon ''Spyro''
Normal Leopard Gecko ''Shadow''
Super hypo tangerine baldy carrot tail leopard gecko ''Moon''
2 whites tree frogs ''Ying and Yang''
1 Royal Python ''Neptune''
1 Veiled Chameleon '' Yoshi''

Personally, I would update the lighting unless all you were going to put in there were mosses or anubias. A T5NO fixture would provide adequate lighting for that tank. By the way, is the tank a 20H or 20L?

+1 on the upgraded lighting. T5's are popular because they provide a lot of light for little fixtures and smaller tanks. I run 2 fixtures on my 15 gallon without CO2, just excel and liquid ferts.
