Discus substrate question

What's up TPT peeps. I have a few discus carnation pigeon and was wondering what other substrate other than black eco complete would be best?

I'm saying other than Eco because of the dark gravel causing these strains of discus to pepper..

Any other recommendations on different color substrate that are as good or even better than eco?

Oscar, got anything against white silica PFS ?
Your carnations shouldn't get one spot of peppering from that, unless you add a dark background to your tank.

I was actually thinking of using that Paul. adding some tabs should make up for the lack if nutrients. as for the background I was planning on using black :/ might have to change that up too.

Silica PFS is absolutely safe for aquarium use. It is inert and will not leach silicate into the water. I was given to understand the PFS I have is quartz-based. Been using it for over 2 years, and I know of many discus-keepers who use PFS and love it.

And btw, Oscar, you may recall I have the white PFS in my tank, but also with a dark blue background, and my Flamingos still get a little peppering on their noses/faces. I don't think there would be any with a light background and the white sand.

And plants will do quite well in PFS, with the use of root tab ferts.
To refresh your memory, you might want to have another look at my tank.
