negative. . . It's a purple and green lily pad. Banana's grow leaves down low and then once they get nicely established, they send out some really long stems that sprout floating lily pads (green on top, red-purple on the bottom). But on the upside, it means your plant is really happy!

Ok, I was really hoping someone else would chime in with a picture or something. This pic was for a different thread, but here are 3 of my Banana's pointed out by red arrows. For scale, this is a 72 gallon bow front tank so the plants are about 18" tall. To date, I have not gotten my monsters to bloom . . . I think the water may be a little too warm or something . . . banana's plants are more of a cool / temperate water plant.

If you look really close at the mass of stems going up, those are the floating lily pads which is what yours is sprouting. They will grow about 36" long or so, loop around the tank then float right at the surface.

This was the thread that I answered with my attached pic: My banana plant won't sprout?

Sorry to fill up the thread, but I guess I'm the only one here growing Nymphoides Aquatica.

Today, I was cleaning the tank and took a close look at the long-stem surface leaves; mine are sprouting something!? I'm not sure if this is a flower, or if it's trying to propagate a whole new plant. All I know is there's a structure growing on the stem, a few inches from the surface. So you may be right, It might be a flower!

My advice: just be really patient. It'll take a few months and 3-6 surface leaves . . . but you may eventually get a bloom!

This is an older leaf and some kind of mystery structure just started growing 2 inches below leaf ....??

Aww so disappointing it is not a flower.. However i was reading some sites I think when it sprouts out roots like those.. you can cut it and stick it in the gravel or just let it float. I am not 100% sure though

Also I believe you can cut mature stems of leaves and let it float after awhile it sprouts white roots.. like in your picture..
then again I am not 100% again so you might want to leave it see what happens?

*edit*
I guess you already knew about that lol I just took a look at your thread.. this might be something different.. I have no clue :P

Anyone else have thoughts or comments?

wow man that's so awesome. My first flower sprout....

I accidentally cut the sprout while trimming my plants... sad to say that sucker never came back.
