To Much Light

Im setting up a new 20H and i have 2 40watt compact FL and i wanna know if that is too much for a low tech tank but i heard at the Lfs the guy said its not to much because of the height of the tank these lights would be fine is that true cause it seems a bit much.

2x40 might be too much, but 2x26 or 2x13 would probably work well depending on what plants you're doing.

If you have more lights than necessary and face algae growth, you can adopt shorter photo periods or stagger the number of lights that go on. You can raise the lights higher above the tank as well. Low tech tanks can have high light as well if you have good plant growth, so don't worry!

You probably have between 50-60 micromols of PAR, assuming you have good reflectors behind those bulbs. That is a little high to do without CO2, but Excel might be enough of a carbon supply for the plants.
