Has anyone ever used eco complete substrate before?
And if so did you have any luck with it?

And im setting up a 20g tank would anyone know how many bags i would need to have a good 3in floor for my plants.
Ive also had a bag of it in my garage for a while less than a year is it still good if not ill just buy a new bag.

Any answers are much appreciated.

I have it in my 90 and my 2 20 gallons. Is it a 20h or a 20L, either way it should be enough. If your gonna plant a lot of stem heavy plants your gonna need root tabs. Ive used bags that i have had open for longer than that, as long as its kept moist it should be fine.

If it's a 20L, you'll probably want 3 bags. That's what I used in my 29gal, which is the same base dimensions of a 20L. For a 20H, 2 bags would probably do.

It's a good, easy substrate. I don't have much experience with alternatives besides in a little 1g bowl, but it's been good for me.

If you want to grow good plants, use good substrate. I dont really understand why alot of people ask this question. Plants are plants, they grow in fertile dirt all over the world. Why people spend $100s on a tank, filter, and lights, along with other supplies, and try to skimp on the dirt part is beyond me. Sounds like a setup for failure. Eco is cheap and is good for mixing with a quality substrate, but I wouldnt use it by itself.

Going to tag along here as I'm just setting up my first planted tank. What is considered high quality substrate? Are we talking "Aqua Soil"?

not sure about how many names there is out there for quality substrate. I've been using eco complete for a long time and has never failed me to grow anything. I use it for everything and will probably never change.

I love Ecco Complete. Looks good, plants hold onto it nicely, and stores nutrients (they say). I wouldn't ever use it by itself since it contains no nutrients. Gunner, go ahead and buy a bag of Miracle Gro Organic Choice Potting Mix for a few bucks from your local garden or grocery store. Then read this thread: https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/lo...-soil-sub.html Then use the Miracle Gro with generous layers of your Ecco Complete on top, and you'll have one of the finest substrates in the hobby.
