Driftwood dilemma Pics

I found these both in the woods.(Oak)The little one I wire brushed, boiled 2 hours with water change after one hour.Put in tank brown water in one day.Boiled again two hours more brown water in pot. When I took it out of the pot I could scrape off black wood crud.Im assuming this is just the grains opening and soft wood from the boiling.Wire brushed it again while still steaming. Is this wood usable? Its hard when dry.Do you think the big piece will be ok to use as its way cool looking? EDIT:Would only let me post one pic,big piece

In my experience, some driftwood have to be soaked with daily (or so) water changes for several weeks before they stop releasing mass tannins and/or grow fungus.

The tanins are great if you are doing a blackwater tank.
