Hairy popcorn?

I found a thing in my fish tank (there have been several) that appears to be a pale seed; roughly the size and shape of a popcorn kernel. It is covered in hair in all directions. It's flat, white, and rather frail. It will hold its seed-like structure until a little pressure is applied, and then it starts to crumble.

edit-

My fish tank has some gouramis, oscar, and giant danios. There is also some bamboo and dying plants.

You should take a picture and post it here so more people could help you find out!

idk about the hair but do u have jungle vals? thats whats coming to mind for me and looks like a pine nut? hair could be part of it or a fungus/decay of the material also. might want to list ur plants imo but thats my guess with that little info.

It's most likely an old fish pellet with fungal spores / bacteria growing on it.

Sounds quite likely. Sinking pellets mold pretty quickly if not being frequently nibbled on.

This might be true; we overfed the oscar quite a bit for awhile, but its not the same shape. I'll get a picture the next time one pops up.
