Assasin snails
I just purchased 30 assassin snails to help me get rid of unwanted snails in my 110 gallon tank. I'm noticing these snails turned up side down and sticking out of their shell dead. I was wondering what could have done this. I do have clown loaches, but they do not seem to be touching those other snails. Any suggestions??

Assassins are dead or other snails are? If it's the other I wonder if the assassins didn't want to eat them. If it's the assassins dead then maybe the clown loach is getting to them when you aren't watching? Show us pics if you can

I'm saying the assassin snails are upside down and sticking out of the shell appearing dead. If the loaches were responsible, wouldn't the snails be eaten?

Perhaps the water conditions aren't okay for them? If they're just keeling over that would seem like that's the problem.

If you bought them online, they took few hours to recover from a long journey. But, if you got them from LFS, they would move right away.
If they dont move at all for days, then they are dead.

I got them from a fellow Aquarius. They looked all healthy when I got them. Do they need special water conditions? I have discus and they are doing well and so are all the other undesirable snails. Perhaps it is the loaches since these snails seem to stand out in my tank they are being targeted...

If you have disqus that means your temperatures are probably pretty high. What are your temps? I've seen various sites say assassin snails are good up till 82 F

I don't feel like the stick out of their shell when they die, don't they sink down into the shell? I would leave them, if they aren't moving by Wednesday take them out

I thought it was a little strange they were like that. I took some out of the tank and put them in another tank where there isn't any loaches. will see how they do.

Dead snails stink. Take one out and give it a sniff - if it doesn't make you gag then it's probably OK.

Could it be they're smart and playing possum acting dead because of the clown loach in the tank? I remember a post about crystal red shrimps immediately jumping out of a tank because there was a predator fish in it with them.

Well about five of the ones I transferred to the other tank are upside down and not moving. only one is slithering around. I will check tomorrow and see if they are still there. if so i will discard them..
