went from gravel to sand - cycle?

I've had a tank running for around a month and a half. Yesterday I changed the substrate from gravel capped with dirt to sand capped with dirt. Do I have to cycle my tank again? The filter was off for ~2 hours, so I'm hoping that the bacteria in there is, for the most part, ok. Should I expect doing daily water changes until my ammonia/nitrate/nitrite levels are ok (according to tests)? How long would I have to do them?

mini cycle which takes about a week or so. the BB in your filter should be fine. just make sure you test it before adding any fish in it.

Get a lot of plants in there and you might not notice any cycle.

Just test and be ready to do water changes as needed.

Do you mean dirt capped with sand? You definitely want the dirt on the bottom.

ok. Definitely keep an eye on your ammonia for any spikes. How bad it could get depends on how much organic matter is in the soil you used.
