Bred, I was going to PM you, but I thought other Torontians might be interested too. (Sorry if I should have put this elsewhere...)

TDS is 180 ppm.

Hey Mouse!

It's Total Dissolved Solids. In a nutshell - a loose measurement of all the [email protected] in the water! What is in the water other than the water molecule itself and soluble contaminents (chlorine, herbicides, pesticides and insecticides.) Fortunately hubby the water guy came downstairs just as I was typing this!

I came here from Blythe, California and the TDS there was between 500 and 800 on any given day... YIKES!

Do you get your water from lake Ontario?
we get some from artesian wells, some from lake simcoe and some from TO. Depends on what side of town you live as to what mix of water you get.
My son lives in the city and I keep asking him if he has hard or soft water-- he doesn't know or care. We have hard water with a Ph of about 8.5 - 9.

You have my husband in a state! He knows the water pretty well all over the area. "pH can't be that high!" (Harrumph) If you are comfortable, where are you? (He's just curious!) We're in Bolton and yes, we have lake Ontario water. It's hard, but not very and pH of 7.4.

If your son is in the city his water is probably the same as mine. Your water would be similar - lake water is usually fairly soft. The wild card is the artesian well...
