Night lighting for tanks?

Is there a good way to light tanks for viewing during night time that wouldn't be disruptive to the tank inhabitants? I think it'd be cool to light a tank at night with a red LED light but I have no idea how well you'd be able to see anything. Has anyone tried this or is there an alternative?

I use a set of mini white Christmas tree lights for my 5.5g. Looks great and is so soft. I have this tank next to my bed.

LED moonlights, I prefer the moon white vs the blue, seems such more natural. I never have a tank without moonlights

I have the marineland LED bubble wall the bubbles and lights go on when the big lights go out so while Im watching tv, I can still enjoy my pretty tank.

The bubbles take on the color of the lights

Then at 3am bubbles and lights go out and the fish still get 9 hours of uninterrupted dark and quiet. I think its a good balance and the fish all seem to be fine with it. My danios (glofish) actually love when the bubbles come on, they play in them
