Brown Algae?

My setup is 10 weeks old. I have been fighting brown algae since week 4. A week ago I replaced all my fake plants with real plants and now I am seeing the brown crap showing up on the leaves again.

What can I do to speed this along or stop it all together? Or must I just close my eyes and deal!!!

Thanks

As long as you don't have any inverts, use an algae fix chemical.

If it's diatoms you can just keep wiping them off and it will eventually go away as the tank matures. Or you can get an otocinclus or 2, they clean up diatoms really well. Only problem with that is you'll have to feed them after they finish all the diatoms and they can be hard to keep alive initially.

I have three otocinclus in my 10 gallon planted tank, and they did a great job on diatoms at the beginning, and now keep my tank pretty well algae free. I feed them a slice of cucumber once a week (leave it in for a day or so), and that seems to keep them healthy.

I recently started a new tank (28 gallon), and had diatoms show up about 4 weeks in, as well. I have just this week started to see the diatoms disappear. The tank has now been running for a couple of months, so I would say the diatoms lasted about 3-4 weeks. I just kept wiping them off the front and side glass, and would rub what I could off the plant leaves.

So, you can either add some diatom eating fish or snails, or wait them out.

I'd put them on a timer and turn them off overnight.

I got some amano shrimp. They went to town on the diatoms and cleared it all in like 2 days. I was shocked that they ate all that algae that fast.
