How often do you rinse your filter...?

I haven't cleaned/rinse my top filter since I started the planted tank, so that makes it about 6 months.

Do you clean/rinse it and if you do how often?

On my high tech tank once every month or two depending how much rescaping and disturbing the substrate I did that month. On my ebi I have a 2213 with a pre filter sponge and don't really predict my rcs ever making enough of a mess to clog that up haha

I run sponge filters on all my intakes to either protect shrimp or fish fry, depending on the tank so I pretty much never clean the inside of the filter as the sponges always capture any big debris so why bother cleaning anything in the filter.

20g platy, , 2 x 10g shrimp, 3 x 20g shrimp, 7.5g shrimp and 1 great dane/mastiff puppy.

I have a hang on back filter and a canister filter. I have not touched the hob for months because every time I do my tank gets unbalanced and I have a hard time getting it crystal clear again even with water polishing filter. My Fluval 205 gets cleaned once a month. My hob is really nasty though haha.

I typically clean it when I notice the outflow weakening which works out to about 1 every 4-5 weeks.

Rinsing Tank Filter

Hello don...

I rinse my filter equipment media weekly. I have large, heavily planted tanks with a lot of fish in them and do weekly water changes of at least 50 percent, most times more. I find if I don't rinse them as often, the tank water gets a little cloudy.

I always squeeze the media in a bucket of the old tank water a couple of times to make sure the old plant and fish material is removed. I like to use media pads. They're very dense and do a good job of filtering out the little particles that float in the water and make it cloudy.

Weekly? wow

Every three months I will open my canisters (on any of my tanks), rinse the bio balls and replace the filter floss. I pull off and rinse my pre-filters with water changes though.

I use pre filters so I never rinse the primary filters.
